National Taiwan University of Science and Technology - EMI Resource Center


Introduction

National Taiwan University of Science and Technology EMI Teaching and Learning Center (NTUST EMI TLC) is the first EMI Teaching and Learning Center among all technical and vocational colleges and universities in Taiwan. Its primary focus on supporting English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) teaching for faculty members, providing EMI related teaching and learning resources, and enriching the EMI teaching capabilities and professional development for faculty members in partner institutions. Aiming to collaborate with institutions as partners on the bilingual program and sharing mutual benefit. Gradually, to establish a dedicated EMI teacher/TA training and capacity-building system to enhance the cultivation of international talents in technical and vocational education. Our services include:

 

1. Professional Development Courses for EMI Teachers

To develop a modular teacher training system for teachers who served at a technical and vocational institution. Our modules, spanning basic, experienced, and advanced stages, amount to a total of 36 hours EMI Enhancement Course. Each stage module consists of a 12-hour course, and upon completion of each stage, participants will receive a training certificate. Various and fruitful courses including curriculum design, material development, classroom management, and leadership in EMI teacher communities.

 

2. Organize Cross-University Teacher Thematic Communities

We encourage various fields teachers from different schools to organize cross-school EMI teacher communities. These communities will focus on exchanging and discussing ideas on English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses. Also, microteaching and EMI teaching observation.

 

3. Strengthen EMI TA Training

To conduct three-stage cross-school EMI TAs training and promote foreign students to get involved as TAs.

 

4.Introduce Learning Support Instructors (EMI Tutors)

To cultivate "Learning and supporting Instructors” to be academic companies and help students who choose EMI courses. These instructors will be based in various colleges as consultants and provide learning relevant services, such as English proficiency test consultations (listening, speaking, reading, writing), being a guide on English learning, giving advice on selecting professional courses, and assisting students with professional academic reports writing or resumes.
