The results of the bilingual learning plan of the College of Management of Fu Jen Catholic University will be presented below, highlighting the characteristics and achievements of the college's development of bilingual programs:

The distinguishing feature of the development of the bilingual program of the College of Management, Fu Jen Catholic University comprises the acquisition of international certification and the creation of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) environment. The details are as follows:

  1. The first to obtain the certification of the Association for the Advancement of International Business Schools in Taiwan: College of Management, Fu Jen Catholic University is the first member of the Association of Advance Collegiate Schools of Business in Taiwan to pass the AACSB certification and offers a number of international courses. Based on the English teaching philosophy, we can promote EMI and offer corresponding EMI courses with much more productive.
  2. Cooperate with the whole university to create a good English learning environment: the university has a complete EMI teaching support system, and the internationalization of the College of Management is conducive to creating an English learning environment to achieve the goal of cultivating bilingual professionals in business management.

The achievements of the College of Management, Fu Jen Catholic University implementation of the bilingual learning plan in the 2021 academic year can be divided into institutional strategy and management, teachers and teaching quality assurance, students and learning, information disclosure, and English learning environment creation. The details are as follows:

Institutional Strategy and Management

  1. Establishment of the Bilingual Education Center of the College of Management: 

In October 2021, the College of Management officially established the Bilingual Education Center through the college council meeting. Its main responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and executing matters related to bilingual teaching. The center is equipped with one director, two seed teachers at the university level, and one assistant.

  1. Establishment of a center committee and an external advisory committee: To promote the business development of the Bilingual Education of the College of Management, the center established a Center Committee composed of the Dean, Vice Dean, Center Director, Program Directors of each department, representatives of faculty members, and student representatives. The committee holds two regular meetings per academic year. In the 2021 academic year, the Bilingual Teaching Center also established two external advisory committee members, whose primary function is to conduct comprehensive evaluations of the center's planning and annual performance. The external advisory committee meeting for the 2021 academic year was held on April 15, 2022, where the committee conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the center's annual plan performance, organizational aspects, and plan content and execution results. The evaluation result was rated as excellent.
  2. Establishment of EMI master's degree program and micro-programs: The College of Management of Fu Jen Catholic University has long been committed to international activities. Regarding EMI teaching, it currently has an international management master class (International Management MBA, imMBA), a Master in Global Entrepreneurial Management(MGEM) class, and an International Marketing and Digital Innovation micro-course.

Teachers and Teaching Quality Assurance

  1. Strengthen EMI teaching capabilities: To improve the EMI teaching ability of teachers of the College of Management, the Bilingual Education Center has established relevant incentives to encourage teachers to actively participate in English teaching enhancement courses, workshops, seminars and English tests. In the part of English language assessments, the goal for the 2021 academic year is to encourage teachers to reach the B2 level and to participate in the assessments voluntarily. In the 2021 academic year, 24 teachers participated in the English teaching enhancement courses, workshops, and seminars and passed the application for incentives, while in the English language assessment part, one teacher passed the C1 level and one teacher passed the B2 level incentive application.
  2. Establishment of EMI courses: In the 2021 academic year, the school offered a total of 88 EMI physical courses; at the same time, in response to the vision of resource sharing and inter-school cooperation in the bilingual national policy development in 2030, the center set up relevant incentives to encourage teachers to open EMI online courses. In the 2021 academic year, a total of 3 EMI online courses were offered, including consumer insight and data intelligence analysis courses, programming introduction courses and advanced programming courses. Overall, the number of full-time faculty members offering EMI courses in the school is 43, accounting for 41.3% of all full-time faculty members.
  3. EMI course evaluations: The Bilingual Education Center collaborated with the school’s bilingual education center to design a course evaluation questionnaire, and evaluated ten courses in each of the two semesters of the 2021 academic year. The course evaluation mainly focused on the aspects of whether the EMI teaching methods could enhance learning outcomes, overall satisfaction with the course, active participation in discussions, and course-related activities. The proportion of courses with an average score of 3.5 or higher in the evaluation results reached 70%.

Students and Learning

  1. To strengthen students' English ability: The bilingual education center has established appropriate incentives to encourage students to actively learn and improve their English ability. The incentives are mainly divided into two parts: English test and English professional business management courses. In the part of English test, 28.2% of the first-year students achieved B2 or above in the English test in the 2021 academic year, and 45.78% achieved B2 before the senior year. As for the study of English professional business and management courses, it is further divided into three parts: First, for the 2021 academic year, 16% of all second-year students in the institution who obtained 9 credits or more in English professional business and management courses. Second, 23 and 20 students respectively completed courses worth 16 and 32 credits before graduating in their fourth year. Third, for the first year of the master's degree program, 8.44% of the students completed 6 credits in English professional business and management courses.

Information Disclosure

  1. Online briefing on student rewards: After the English-related incentive measures were confirmed, the bilingual center held a student incentive online briefing on March 9, 111, to allow students to understand the importance of bilingual learning to the bilingual and the learning resources currently provided.  Students can plan and adjust the direction of future learning, and include the cultivation of bilingual ability as one of the key points of future learning. The total number of students who participated in the briefing session in the 2021 academic year reached 110.
  2. The establishment of the Management College Bilingual Center website and digital learning platform: In order to allow faculty and students to access relevant information disclosed by the bilingual education center in real-time, the bilingual center’s website and digital wisdom sustainable learning platform were successively built in early 2021. Relevant information and rewards The methods and application documents will be disclosed on the bilingual center’s webpage, with an average of 300 visits per month; videos, teaching materials and other related content of online EMI courses will be presented on the digital smart sustainable learning platform, and can also be accessed through the background information of the system. Currently, three EMI online learning courses have been uploaded to the digital learning platform.

English learning environment shaping

English Corner: The bilingual education center creates an English learning environment through English corner activities, allowing students to interact with foreign English-speaking tutors during the non-curriculum time and practice their English speaking skills. In the first semester of the 2021 academic year, the bilingual education center collaborated with the bilingual education center of the school to hold a total of 24 English corner activities for six weeks, four times a week, with a total of 119 participants. There are 12 English Corner activities held every Tuesday for six weeks, with a total number of participants of 202. The activity also solicited feedback from participating students. Who responded positively and believed that the English corner activities were helpful for English learning.
