Feng Chia University-International School of Technology and Management

Abstract

With the International School of Technology and Management (ISTM) as its focal point, Feng Chia University actively promotes bilingual education. It leads and facilitates the development of EMI programs across all departments. In 2021, the university established the "EMI Resource Center" to assist various units in collaboration and ensure the quality of the EMI instruction. Particularly, through training programs aimed at enhancing teachers' EMI teaching capabilities, including collaboration with the University of Adelaide in Australia to offer online training courses, 40 qualified English-language teachers were selected between the academic years 2021 and 2022 who have completed the teacher's training.

In terms of ensuring teaching quality in the ISTM, the university actively attracts foreign faculty; revises hourly payment regulations; organizes teacher's training activities; and establishes relevant mentoring mechanisms. By implementing a quality assurance system for bilingual teaching and student learning, regular mid-term and final teaching surveys are conducted to promptly understand the effectiveness of EMI course instructions. Consequently, it provides a basis for instructors to improve their teaching methods. There are also ongoing efforts to expand the participation of the English-language teacher community and strengthen collaboration across different universities.

As for students, 471 have been selected to study abroad at partner institutions, with over 210 students obtaining dual bachelor's degrees. Through the implementation of various English proficiency enhancement measures, there has been a successful improvement in the English abilities of second-year students. The university is committed to continuance of promoting bilingual education, with emphasis on teacher's training, enhancement of teaching quality, and implementation of various measures to improve English proficiency. The goal is to provide students with a higher quality learning environment, which would foster an international perspective, and strengthen their competitiveness. The following is a summary of the achievements for the academic year 2022.
