Abstract

In terms of the fields essential to national development, core abilities, such as combing through technical literature, communication and negotiation, and international leadership, require English competence. With the EMI strategy, we will require students’ English proficiency level and the faculty’s course instruction in English so that students’ English language skills may greatly increase. The increase may also lead to the overall elevation of Taiwanese graduates’ English language skills and employability. During the practice of the EMI project, faculty members, as well as students of the CEECS, make a great improvement in their English competence. Based on the CEECS’s experiences in international exchange and the global competitions that students have participated in, we can expect that, with the EMI project for increasing the students and faculty’s language skills, their willingness and competitiveness can also be greatly motivated, and the quality and quantity of EMI teaching and learning will be enhanced. Moreover, the CEECS will have more opportunities to cooperate with other colleges, institutes, or universities around the world. In this project, we will also extend EMI courses to undergraduate programs, which will further enable us to have more international exchange students and to promote international degree student recruitment for undergraduate programs. With the EMI project execution, the CEECS will extend the EMI courses from graduate schools to undergraduate programs to have a more comprehensive English learning environment.
