The achievement of the 2022 academic year of the bilingual program of the College of Life Sciences, NCHU
The second phase of " The Program on Bilingual Education for Students in College " of the College of Life Sciences of National Chung Hsing University has once again been approved by the Ministry of Education as a key cultivated college for the purpose of "Cultivating English Ability" and "Enhancing National Competitiveness" of the Executive Yuan's "2030 Bilingual National Policy Development Blueprint" and the Ministry of Education's " The Program on Bilingual Education for Students in College " for the higher education stage. To strengthen students' English proficiency, promote all-English teaching, and enhance the overall international competitiveness of higher education, the College of Life Sciences organizes special lecture training and professional development for EMI teachers and teaching assistants, and integrates EMI courses into long-term curriculum planning, designs, plans and implements multi-faceted strategies to meet the needs of teachers, students, and the whole school, and builds a bridge of cross-language and cultural communication. The College of Life Sciences is also committed to creating a high-quality bilingual learning environment, with a focus on nurturing bilingual professionals in their professional fields. The College would like to thank the BER Center of the Academic Affairs Office of National Chung Hsing University for working closely with the colleges, International Office, Academic Affairs Office, Language Center and other units of the university to integrate and share resources, carry out EMI curriculum consolidation and medium- and long-term planning, and enhance teachers' EMI course skills and improve students' English ability, which is more closely related to the educational concepts and goals of talent cultivation and internationalization. The EMI of the College of Life Sciences promotes the dedicated units to obtain more effective resource injection, combined with the development strategy of the university, smoothly extends horizontally and vertically, coordinates and fully integrates the resources of various departments, promotes and implements the bilingual policy in the EMI courses in various fields of the College of Life Sciences, strengthens the teaching methods and quality, takes root downward and extends upwards to improve students' English ability, increases the integration and participation of foreign professionals and international students, optimize the bilingualization of higher education teaching software and hardware environments, work together with inter-university cross-border and cross-field cooperation to cultivate professionals with high-level life science expertise and global mobility, and steadily develop and implement the bilingual goals of the Ministry of Education.
The implementation results of the 2022 academic year of the Bilingual Program of the College of Life Sciences are divided into seven aspects, namely institutional strategy and management, teachers and teaching, students and learning, information disclosure, quality assurance, resource sharing and inter-school cooperation, and other supporting measures. The implementation results of the seven major aspects are detailed according to different aspects:

- In addition to the establishment of a college-level EMI promotion unit as the "Executive Committee of Bilingual Education of the College of Life Sciences", the College of Life Sciences has promoted and implemented the EMI bilingual policy, and increased the number of members of the organization to strengthen the efficiency of policy promotion and implementation.
- A total of 61 awards of teacher award subsidiaries in the 2022 academic year of the College of Biological Sciences.
- The College of Life Sciences handled a total of 11 College Affairs meetings and stakeholder meetings in the College.
- The College of Life Sciences implements a bilingual policy consisting of 5 departments, 1 master's degree program, and 3 doctoral programs.
- There are 9 departments and institutes, credit programs, or other English-language teaching programs in the College of Life Sciences.
- Highlights of the implementation results of teachers and teaching are as follows:
- The EMI classes for undergraduates are 7 courses, master's are 46 courses, and postgraduate are 34 courses.
- There is a total of 53 online courses in the 2022 academic year EMI of the College of Life Science.
- A total of 31 teachers from the College of Life Sciences taught EMI in this academic year.

- Highlights of the implementation results of students and learning are as follows:
- There are about 66 sophomores with English proficiency of B2 or above.
- About 92 students have English proficiency of B2 or above in their senior year (before graduation).
- Students take EMI courses, and more than 20% of the credits taken by sophomores are taught in English, accounting for about 1.14% of the total number of students in the second-year undergraduate science college, and approximately more than 20% of the credits taken by first-year students are taught in English, and approximately more than 1.04% of the total number of second-year students in the day school of science and technology.
- A total of 9 students participated in the professional English micro-credit course.
- A total of 2 students went Saitama University and Yamagata University in Japan to participate in conferences, competitions, and international exchanges.
- Highlights of the implementation results of information disclosure are as follows:

- The College realizes the importance of teachers' language awareness, student group discussions, and international student participation in the development of EMI courses, so it has held a total of 11 EMI college affairs meetings for the complete curriculum map and students' coping skills.
- The feedback of questionnaires Updated and effective information not only provides effective learning outcomes but also provides better communication methods to enhance professional knowledge and teaching quality for students and teachers. This survey aims to collect the learning development and self-evaluation of students' learning effectiveness during the EMI course of the College of Life Sciences, and to conduct a questionnaire survey for students who have taken EMI courses, so as to plan services and guidelines that are closer to the learning situation and needs of students, provide the basis for EMI teaching improvement and curriculum planning of various departments, and serve as supporting materials for the EMI teaching effectiveness and quality evaluation of the College. A total of 78 questionnaires were collected in this survey, 41.03% of the students strongly agreed that the all-English teaching improved their English ability, 69.23% of the students strongly agreed that the teacher's expression was clear and fluent, 53.85% of the students strongly agreed that the teacher's teaching method was helpful to my learning, 56.41% of the students strongly agreed that the course schedule was appropriate and the content of the teaching materials was substantial, 53.85% of the students strongly agreed that the learning of EMI course was helpful for my foreign language ability and professional learning, 62.82% 70.51% of the students strongly agreed that the teacher was willing to help guide the students to solve problems, 73.08% of the students strongly agreed that the teacher did not miss class, or remedial measures have been taken for missing class, 53.85% of the students strongly agreed that the teaching assessment method can reasonably reflect the learning outcomes of their classmates, 55.13% of the students strongly agreed that the teacher's assessment of students' grades is reasonable so far, 67.95% The students strongly agreed with the teacher to provide and solve students' questions about the course in a timely manner, and 57.69% of the students strongly agreed that the teaching effect of this course was very good.

The implementation of the 2022 academic year bilingual learning plan for students in colleges and universities of the College of Life Sciences of National Chung Hsing University has shown outstanding and brilliant results in seven aspects: institutional strategy and management, teachers and teaching, students and learning, information disclosure, quality assurance, resource sharing and inter-school cooperation and other supporting measures. Supporting measures and milestones: With the consensus of teachers and students (stakeholders), the bilingual environment of the College of Life Sciences has been gradually optimized through the combination of "expanding bilingual manpower" and "resource sharing and inter-school cooperation", and strengthening the teaching energy of EMI and the cooperation between schools and colleges. The College of Life Sciences of National Chung Hsing University hopes to strengthen the implementation of policies through resource sharing and inter-university cooperation to expand teachers, and teaching materials and create a bilingual environment, so as to achieve the vision of a bilingual country.
