II. Features of supporting teachers
(I) Each department in our college has established an "EMI Courses Task Group". It is responsible for reviewing the EMI courses offered by various departments, inviting external experts to jointly review the teaching content and teaching methods of EMI courses to improve the teaching quality of EMI courses, and analyze the teaching of each EMI course in the department through the results of student and teacher questionnaires at the end of the semester. The reflection will be used as a reference and improvement basis for teachers to open EMI courses next time.
(II) Our college encourages students to take EMI courses. To avoid the situation where the number of students taking EMI courses is too low to be able to open classes, a policy of only 8 students per EMI course is set, so that students who are interested in taking EMI courses can smoothly take EMI courses and ensure that all departments of our college offer EMI courses for more than 20 credits per year.
(III) Our college actively trains EMI teachers. Through the arrangement of the Bilingual Teaching Promotion Resource Center and Teacher Development Center of our school, we subsidize teachers to participate in EMI teacher training and development, and also subsidize teachers to take English proficiency exams to enhance their teaching experience in EMI courses. Teachers who teach EMI courses in our college have obtained foreign academic qualifications and participated in EMI teacher training up to 100%.
(IV) Our college actively encourages teachers to offer EMI courses. In addition to receiving incentives for teachers who offer EMI courses, each EMI course also provides co-teaching hours and remedial teaching hours, and each EMI course is equipped with a teaching assistant to follow the class in EMI course to assist in teaching and after-school tutoring.
(V) There is a "EMI Teacher Growth Community" planned in our college. Teachers who are interested in EMI planning and teachers who have experience in EMI implementation will be included in the community and meet irregularly. There were four parties in the 111 academic year, and the experience of EMI teaching was shared at each party, which was of great help to the growth of new EMI teachers and achieved the effect of mutual support among teachers.
(VI) In the 111 academic year, our college sought support from the school to transform common English 24 credits into ESP courses. At the same time, we established an “ESP course preparation and teaching strategy teacher community” to jointly plan ESP courses with the English Teaching Center and our EMI teachers, and also improve the EMI teaching ability of our teachers through joint preparation.
III. Features of supporting students
(I) Our college encourages students to practice oral speaking. Promote one-to-many online tutoring courses and students practice English speaking online with tutors. A total of 84 students from our college participated. Online English learning is conducted under the leadership of tutors to enhance students' English learning interest and English communication atmosphere. In addition to online exchanges, our college also invites international students recommended by the school's "Office of International and Cross-Strait Cooperation" to conduct one-on-one or one-to-many dialogue exercises with our students, or invites international students at student gatherings to share the customs of different countries. Through international students sharing in dialogue exercises or international students interacting with students in EMI courses, students can immerse themselves in a foreign language environment and help to enhance interest in actively pursuing international development in the future.
(II) Our college provides students who take EMI courses to obtain professional certificates in English. Our college is oriented towards practical education, allowing students to experience using English to express professional knowledge and obtain international professional certificates, which can help them explore international opportunities. A total of 39 people participated in the professional licenses including Adobe Illustrator and SSE Adobe Photoshop CC.
(III) Our college encourages students to reach B2 level in English proficiency by issuing scholarships, and fully subsidizes the credit fees for students to study off-campus and foreign EMI courses (Coursera). Those who complete EMI courses with passing grades will be given incentives and credit credits to expand students' diverse choices of EMI courses.
(IV) Our college offers dual classes in Chinese and English for compulsory EMI courses, providing students with a variety of course options. Students can choose courses after trial within three weeks of the start of the semester. At the same time, EMI courses also offer remedial teaching to enhance students' learning effectiveness.
(V) Our college strives for the support of the school, sets up “Chit Chat Club”, and invests capital equipment to create a foreign language dialogue space. With the support of the library, we purchased CNN news program information system, which is an English learning course planned with selected CNN news clips. Students can improve their dialogue ability through self-study. We also set up a TV screen in front of the elevator or the department office to broadcast the course and create an English learning environment. We also strive for the support of Office of International and Cross-Strait Cooperation to provide English writing counseling services for foreign students to strengthen their English writing ability.
