Tunghai University-College of Management

Abstract

The College of Management of Tunghai University has been continuously promoting global cooperation and internationalized teaching since it earned AACSB accreditation in February 2018. In September 2018, the college began admitting students for the English-taught Global Master of Business Administration (GMBA) program and integrated its six departments in September 2019 to create the Global Elite Program where all required courses are taught in English in collaboration with top business schools overseas in the form of dual-degree programs. In February 2023, the college received re-accreditation by AACSB and further enhanced its EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) teaching with grants from the BEST program sponsored by the Ministry of Education. For the academic years 2023-2026, the college plans to implement the following strategic actions.

Institutional Strategy and Management

  • Establishment of the Bilingual Education Promotion Committee (BEPC) under the directive of the university president.
  • Collaboration with the university's English Language Center to deepen EMI-related strategies.
  • Enhancement of EMI teaching through the addition of core and advanced courses in each department.
  • Professional development for stakeholders to strengthen the college's internationalization strategy.

Teachers and Teaching

  • Collaboration with the university's English Language Center to plan EMI professional teaching courses regularly.
  • Establishment of intra-university teaching communities for exchanging EMI teaching experiences.
  • Advanced mentoring services for teachers to enhance their English teaching abilities.

Students and Learning

  • Introduction of small-group EMI preparatory courses for freshmen to develop comprehensive English communication and learning skills.
  • Encouragement for departments to specify certain compulsory courses for EMI teaching in their admission brochures.
  • Integration of diverse interactive teaching methods and extracurricular English activities to reinforce students' English learning abilities.

Information Disclosure

  • Provision of comprehensive EMI-related information on the university's bilingual education website, departmental webpages, and the academic affairs office website.
  • Active promotion of the college's EMI achievements through social media platforms to reach high school and current students.
  • Introduction of EMI course annotations on students' transcripts to track their EMI learning progress.
  • Organization of graduation ceremonies and issuance of certificates for the Global Elite Program to recognize students' EMI learning achievements.

Quality Assurance

  • Approval of EMI courses through rigorous review by departmental curriculum committees.
  • Implementation of student feedback mechanisms and end-of-course assessments for continuous improvement of EMI courses.
  • Continuous improvement from AACSB re-accreditation in February 2023 to ensure the quality of course learning outcomes.

Resource Sharing and Cross-Universities Cooperation

  • Establishment of teacher communities and workshops to foster a quality EMI learning environment.
  • Collaboration with international universities for exchange programs and dual-degree initiatives.
  • Encouragement of students to participate in domestic and international internships through the university’s international internship development center.

Other Supporting Measures

  • Establishment of an English teaching training group to improve new teachers' English proficiency and EMI teaching abilities.
  • Strengthening in the College of Management's commitment to EMI teaching and internationalization, ensuring the quality of education and preparing students for success in the globalized world.
