112th Academic Year Project Summary
This project envisions "Professional Bilingualism • Competency in Practice" as its development goal and established the Bilingual Teaching Resource Center in 2021. A Bilingual Teaching Curriculum Promotion Committee was set up to integrate resources from various departments within the university and develop a clear plan for the advancement of bilingual education. The following strategies and implementation outcomes are summarized:
(1) Enhancing Students' English Proficiency:
To strengthen students' bilingual learning outcomes, the implementation of bilingual education has focused on improving English proficiency. The following measures were completed during the 2021-2023 academic years:
1.Revised English Proficiency Assessment: The university revamped its English testing to cover a comprehensive evaluation of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Additionally, an international certification for professional English vocabulary proficiency, the Professional Vocabulary Quotient Credential (PVQC), was introduced.
2.Revised Undergraduate English Curriculum: The content of the undergraduate English courses was adjusted, with students being grouped and taught according to their English proficiency levels. An English learning progression plan was also established.
3.Enhanced Student Motivation: To motivate students, several initiatives were implemented, including bilingual teaching assistant support, English presentation competitions, and the launch of new TOEIC training sessions at different levels.
(2) English Teaching and Support System within the University:
A Bilingual Teaching Curriculum Promotion Committee was established to set the guidelines for implementing bilingual courses. Key initiatives include:
1.Bilingual Education Briefings: Two informational sessions were held to explain the new bilingual education system and ensure faculty and staff understood its goals and procedures.
2.Implementation of Bilingual Course Standards: The university introduced basic proficiency standards for general English courses, bilingual instruction in professional courses, and bilingual course planning guidelines.
3.Bilingual Course Funding and Evaluation: A process was implemented for reviewing applications for bilingual course funding and evaluating self-assessment reports upon the completion of bilingual courses.
