Key Achievements of the Implementation Measures

1. Increased Professional and General English Certifications:
   In the 2023 academic year, students earned: 314 professional English certificates at the advanced level or higher. 943 CEFR A2 certificates, 417 CEFR B1 certificates, 52 CEFR B2 certificates, 8 CEFR C1 certificates, and 1 CEFR C2 certificate.
2. Promotion of Innovative General English Teaching:
   In the 2023 academic year, 27 general English teachers implemented innovative teaching for over three weeks, achieving an average satisfaction score of 81.31. This initiative will continue and be further refined in the 2024 academic year.
3. Outstanding Student Learning Outcomes in EMI Courses:
   Students demonstrated strong adaptability, supported by pre-class provision of professional English terminology and TA assistance.
   • 2023 Fall Semester: Undergraduate EMI courses (3 courses): Average score 82.37. Master's EMI courses (2 courses): Average score 88.32.
   • 2024 Spring Semester: Undergraduate EMI courses (6 courses): Average score 86.16. Master's EMI courses (2 courses): Average score 84.45.
4. High Student Satisfaction with EMI Teaching:
   Teachers applying for EMI courses and incentives must hold at least a CEFR B2-level certification, complete at least 36 hours of EMI training, and pass a three-tier review.
   • 2023 Fall Semester: Undergraduate EMI course satisfaction: Average 87.51. Master's EMI course satisfaction: Average 93.75.
   • 2024 Spring Semester: Undergraduate EMI course satisfaction: Average 90.89. Master's EMI course satisfaction: Average 93.87.
5. Implementation of EMI Classroom Observation System:
   In the 2023 academic year, four in-class observations and nine asynchronous observations were conducted.
6. Continued Faculty Training and Establishment of Departmental EMI Communities:
   A total of 65 hours of EMI training workshops were conducted, with 281 participants (174 from the university and 107 external). Among university faculty, 46 teachers completed at least 10 hours of training, accounting for 17.69% of all faculty members.
7. Ongoing Enhancement of ESP Faculty English Proficiency:
   In 2023, ESP workshops continued, with 14 departmental ESP instructors earning professional certifications, totaling 18 certified instructors (78% of target faculty).
8. Outstanding Performance in External Professional English Competitions:
   12th PVQC Professional English and Japanese Vocabulary and Listening Competition (National Finals):
   • 4 championships, 3 runner-ups, 1 third place, and 5 "Gold Brain" awards (13 awards total).
   • Electrical Engineering Department: National champion in the Electrical and Electronics category (team).
   • Applied Foreign Languages Department: National runner-up in the Culinary category (team).
   • Tourism and Leisure Department: National runner-up in the Tourism category (team).
9. Utilization of Regional Bilingual Resource Centers for Inter-University Collaboration:
   As of July 2024, the university has collaborated with bilingual resource centers at NTU, NTNU, NCKU, NSYSU, NCHU, and NTUST, covering EMI teacher/TA training, expert consultations, and classroom observations. 
10. Successful Participation in the AIT English Teaching Training Program:
    The university, in collaboration with AIT, secured approval from the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs for an EMI training program. The 15-hour training will be conducted in August 2024 by Dr. Adrienne Johnson, Chair of the Department of Education at Missouri Western State University.
