The College of International Culture, Education and Foreign Affairs (The College) has continued and slightly revised its main development goals for the 2023 academic year into (1) Establish EMI class observations as a regular practice; (2) Enhance ESP and EAP courses to run concurrently with EMI; (3) Strengthen students’ academic English speaking and writing abilities; (4) Promote the sharing of bilingual resources. “Transition, Refinement, Interaction, Sharing” summarizes the College’s key achievements for 2023 academic year:

1. Transition:

1.1 Implemented the university’s policy of offering bridging courses, including full-English instruction, to help new students acclimate to university life. A total of 237 collegiate students participated.

1.2 Adapted to current trends, organizing nine community groups, five of which are related to EMI, AI, technology, and SDGs.

2. Advancement:

2.1        Offered advanced writing and speaking classes to attend BESTEP test. 

2.2        Purchased speaking and writing software for students’ self-study and practice.

2.3        Introduced a “Cross-Disciplinary Workplace Practices” course to enhance student employability.

2.4        Improved class observation procedures and hosted an international conference (last year, it was a domestic one).

3. Interaction:

3.1       For the 40 EMI courses observed, the interaction time per class is increased by 11 minutes compared to the previous year.   

3.2       Provided various interactive activities, such as “Cultural Corners” and “Meet with Foreign Friends.”

3.3       Launched the “International Online Scholar Concurrent Courses” to promote international exchange.

4. Sharing:

4.1 Signed a tripartite alliance with two other universities to share resources.

4.2 Completed three planned MOOCs and uploaded them to the university platform.

An exemplary EMI teaching video was selected, clearly outlining teaching methods and strategies, and shared with everyone.
