Our goals focus on "enhancing students' English proficiency" and "improving teachers' ability to teach specialized courses in English," thereby promoting English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) and overall boosting the international competitiveness of higher education. These objectives align with the 2023-2026 short-and long-term institutional development plan of Kainan University, which particularly emphasizes the continuous "enhancement and optimization of teaching quality." 

(1) Enhancing Students' English Proficiency and Promoting English as a Medium of Instruction 

  Our institution continues to implement English proficiency assessments for all students to ensure they are placed in environments suitable to their levels, abilities, and improving their English skills. In the second semester of the 2023 academic year, the "Empowerment English Proficiency Test" from the Language Training Testing Center was incorporated into the end-of-semester proficiency exams. The results were consistent with the institution's own assessments, showing that student proficiency ranges from A2 to B1, with overall proficiency improving annually. For sophomore students, we provide opportunities to gradually engage with English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses, extending the possibility of cross-disciplinary EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) learning. Additionally, with the assistance of the Southern District Bilingual Education Regional Resource Center, we promote EMI TA teaching resource sharing and inter-school cooperation. 

(2) Enhancing the Professional Ability of Teachers to Teach in English

  Our institution continuously enhances teachers' professional ability to teach in English through various means, including overseas EMI training, internal growth communities, inter-school community activities, EMI teaching workshops, subsidies for the development of excellent EMI teaching materials, and improving students' English learning methods. We also provide the "Kainan University Teacher English Teaching Incentive Program" to encourage teachers to offer EMI courses and invite all teachers to participate in English collaborative lesson preparation and observation. These activities, led by American professional teaching consultants, included EMI teaching enhancement workshops, helping teachers improve their professional abilities in EMI teaching through workshops, lectures, and other activities, aiming to deepen our bilingual teaching human resources.
