Abstract

Summary of the Features and Achievements of the Program on Bilingual Education for Students in NTCU

Under the framework of NTCU's academic development plan, the strategy of "Widespread Enhancement" serves as the backbone. Through strengthened bilingual education integrated with systematic teaching of professional knowledge, we aim to promote and achieve overall improvement in English proficiency and internationalization among all teachers and students.

  1. Enhancement of Professional English Application Abilities:
    1. Conducting workshops to improve students' self-learning abilities in English. A total of 210 workshops were conducted in the 113 academic year, with 3,804 participants.
    2. Encouraging students to utilize self-study resources both on and off campus for autonomous learning. Freshman English courses are based on 10-15% English self-study scores.
    3. Utilizing English proficiency assessment resources to evaluate students' English levels, aiding them in self-directed language learning. In the 113 academic year, 90.09% of senior students successfully met the basic English proficiency requirements.
  2. Progressive Development of EMI Courses:
    1. Providing incentives for teaching hours devoted to EMI courses. In the 113 academic year, 22 ESP/EAP courses and 28 EMI courses were offered.
    2. Support from 18 teaching assistants and 33 collaborative teaching with consultants experienced in EMI instruction, both within and outside the school.
    3. Implementing measures such as guiding language learning in listening, speaking, reading, and writing dimensions to concretely support and enhance the quality of bilingual teaching and students' learning outcomes.
  3. Enhancement of International Sustainable Development:
    1. Providing information on EMI courses during international student orientation sessions to facilitate quicker adaptation to campus life and professional course programs.
    2. Encouraging international students to actively participate in relevant international exchange programs and activities.
    3. Providing subsidies for 2 teachers to participate in overseas training programs and providing resources.

This comprehensive approach underscores our commitment to advancing bilingual education and nurturing a globally competitive learning environment.
