In the 113th academic year, the College of Business and College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in Chung Yuan Christian University were designated as key cultivation colleges under The Program on Bilingual Education for Students in College. The University’s Office of Bilingual Education serves as the dedicated institutional unit at the university level, responsible for coordinating with all relevant offices to execute the program. The Language Center offers compulsory English courses for all students, with assessment components linked to diverse English learning activities and competitions, thereby fostering a comprehensive bilingual learning environment. Furthermore, the University has implemented a series of faculty development initiatives, including English proficiency enhancement programs, teaching evaluations, course incentives, one-on-one teaching consultations, selection of outstanding EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) instructors, provision of teaching resource subsidies, and the establishment of EMI workshops. These measures are designed to strengthen faculty members’ English proficiency and their capacity to deliver full EMI instruction, while also establishing a comprehensive internal support system for English teaching. The major achievements are as follows: a total of eight English learning activities were organized, with cumulative participation reaching 314 person-times; the number of faculty members applying for one-on-one EMI teaching consultations increased significantly from five in the 112th academic year to twenty-six in the 113th academic year, reflecting a substantial rise in demand for professional instructional consultation; in addition, both the number of EMI courses receiving recognition and the number of faculty awarded for EMI teaching have demonstrated a steady upward trend. In conclusion, through the adoption of systematic and diversified measures, accompanied by sustained allocation of resources, CYCU has effectively advanced and expanded the implementation of EMI teaching across colleges and departments. These efforts have encouraged a greater number of faculty members to value and actively participate in EMI instruction, thereby strengthening the University’s EMI teaching capacity and laying a solid foundation for the establishment of a high-quality internationalized teaching and learning environment.
 

The College of Business (COB) at Chung Yuan Christian University advanced its English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) efforts in AY-113 by focusing on faculty development, student support, and international engagement.
On the teaching side, 30 faculty members took part in a peer observation system covering 46 classes, creating space for feedback and exchange of practice. In addition, 507 participants joined English enhancement workshops, and three faculty members participated in the Fulbright EMI program. To diversify the curriculum, COB offered 231 in-person EMI courses and 24 online, recognized 86 courses for innovation, and introduced 6 digital courses through the digital platform. A flexible salary incentive scheme also recognized 20 faculty members for their bilingual teaching contributions.
Students were supported through multiple initiatives. A total of 134 joined English proficiency and online training programs, while 77 were trained as teaching assistants. Further assistance included test fee reimbursements, support for English-based club activities, and Coursera scholarships. A stamp reward system was also launched to encourage active participation.
International initiatives included a U.S. summer camp, an International Business Camp with Middle Tennessee State University, a Japan internship, and a Thailand volunteer project. COB also co-hosted the 33rd Asia-Pacific Conference with Rutgers University, welcomed 13 inbound exchange students, sent 32 abroad, and organized events such as a Christmas banquet and EMI Singing Contest to foster integration and global outlook.
