The College of Informatics started the EMI program in the 112 academic year with the goals of cultivating globally competitive information professionals, strengthening faculty EMI teaching capacity, and creating a supportive bilingual learning environment.

The achievements of the 113 academic year are summarized below.

I. Faculty

To encourage faculty participation in EMI teaching and enhance instructional quality, the EMI Center provides a variety of incentives. In the 113 academic year, a total of 60 applications were approved.

In terms of professional development, four faculty members participated in the Oxford Online EMI Training Course. In addition, faculty members joined various EMI-related training programs, including the Fulbright overseas training program, the cross-university EMI peer observation community at National Chung Hsing University.

Furthermore, we organized EMI faculty communities and exchange activities to promote experience sharing and teaching discussions among faculty members. A total of 81 participants joined these activities.

II. Students

To encourage students to enroll in EMI courses and strengthen their motivation for English learning, the College provides various incentives, including EMI course enrollment incentives, online self-learning incentives, and so on. In the 113 academic year, a total of 263 incentive applications were approved. A new EMI Study Partner Program was also introduced, encouraging students who had already achieved B2 proficiency in all four English skills to support peers in improving their English proficiency.

In addition, the EMI Center organized a variety of English learning activities, attracting a total of 1,360 participants. 

The proportion of sophomores achieving B2 proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing increased significantly in the 113 academic year compared with previous years, demonstrating steady improvement in students’ English abilities.

III. Curriculum

In the 113 academic year, the College offered 96 EMI courses, including 12 newly established courses, accounting for 23.3% of all courses in the College.

To support students’ learning adaptation, the College established EMI after-class tutoring and teaching assistant support. EMI courses with more than 25 enrolled students are eligible to apply for an additional teaching assistant. EMI TAs are required to attend EMI TA training workshops to strengthen their understanding of EMI teaching and student support strategies. In the 113 academic year, the College of Informatics organized a series of EMI TA workshops, with a total of 84 participants.

In the future, the College of Informatics will continue to deepen the implementation of EMI initiatives, strengthen faculty teaching capacity, improve students’ bilingual competencies and curriculum quality, and cultivate information professionals equipped with both disciplinary expertise and international competitiveness.
