Features:

  • EMI course – Offering enough required and elective courses which lectured in English and Chinese to satisfy students’ need. 
  • Teachers and Teaching Assistant Training – The center for Teaching and Learning Development regularly offers EMI training courses and teaching experience sharing, and encourages the teachers to take courses and join the support group. The TA of the EMI courses are trained every semester, to learn how to assist the teachers and communicate with the students and the teacher. 
  • The center of English Education - It provides 5 levels of English proficiency - Elementary, Intermediate, Upper- Intermediate, Proficient and Advanced. The level is assigned based on the English score / percentile rank of the General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT). All the ESAP courses are designed by the 5 core competency indicators:
  1. Ability to communicate and express oneself in English
  2. Ability to think critically and organize ideas logically in English
  3. Knowledge of English learning strategies and techniques
  4. Global views of English and multicultural diversity
  5. Ability to use existing English learning resources and development of independent self-learning habits
  • Learning in an Internationalized Environment – There are International Bachelor of Business Administration Program (IBBA) and International Master of Business Administration (IMBA) in our college. The local and international students may discuss and cooperate through taking EMI courses and student activities. It is a good way to learn and to know the cultural differences. 
  • Office of International Affair – The office explores collaboration possibilities with peer business schools all around the world, offering exchange opportunities and dual degree programs. 

 

Highlight 

  • Incentive Scheme for English Taught Courses – It is established in 2022. Courses to be rewarded must be conducted all in English, including instruction, teaching materials, tests and syllabi and must be indicated as“English Taught” on the curriculum. The score of evaluation needs to be above 4.0. There are 95 courses in 2021, and the average score is 4.42. 
  • Support of EMI teachers – Our university organized courses and seminars for EMI teaching. We encourage teachers and students to participate. Four CTM teachers completed Cambridge Certificate in EMI Skills. 
  • Subsidy for passing English Proficiency Test – The subsidy for the students who reach CEFR B2. 133 students applied from June, 2022, and 28 CTM students passed CEFR B2 and received the subsidy. 
  • Optimizing Bilingual Environment – The signs and floor map of CTM building are all in Chinese and English. The websites and the regulations are presented in bilingual, international students and faculty can easily to look up the information they need. All the students and teachers will receive the updates and information from monthly CTM E-newsletters, which is in Chinese and English and edited by CTM students. 
  • Bilingual activities - The Brownbag Series is designed for all faculty members/PhD students across all disciplines in NTHU CTM (but also open to other universities/colleges) to gather to present their research ideas/papers, to exchange discussions, and to have feedbacks. Free lunch is provided. Each colleague/student can present her/his work for about 30 minutes about what s/he is doing or what s/he plans to do, and then the other participating colleagues will provide our comments and thoughts. This is a good format to let all colleagues/students to know their peers in different departments, to cultivate friendship, to have more exposure to different research topics, and to receive some constructive comments to improve their work. The 15 events had held for 2021-2022, we invited the speakers from various fields to share their latest research.
