National Taiwan University of Science and Technology -College of Management

Abstract

The School of Management (SOM) began planning a series of English-related activities in the 110th academic year to help students gain easier access to English learning resources, with the aim of enhancing their English proficiency and becoming bilingual professionals.

Establishing a dedicated website and integrating EMI resources

In order for each student to better understand what EMI and related programs are, a dedicated EMI website has been built to integrate all EMI-related course information, seminars, and activities, and to provide online learning resources to enhance English proficiency, so that students can have a clear path to the latest information through this website.

Providing online learning resources to strengthen students' independent learning ability

TOEIC Online Self-Study Course: The course is the only official online course developed by the TOEIC test developer, Educational Testing Service (ETS). The 1000 mock test questions are designed to match the TOEIC test. After completing the practice questions and the online test, a proficiency analysis report is provided to help learners understand their strengths and weaknesses in English. Students can prepare their listening and reading skills in advance to bridge the EMI curriculum.

LinkedIn Learning: The School of Management has partnered with Microsoft to provide a LinkedIn Learning account for every student in the School of Management. There are three categories of topics: Business, Technology, and Creative, providing the most up-to-date information on industry skills.

Cultivate students' international perspective and keep up with international trends

ESG Lecture Series: Environmental, social and governance (ESG) are important issues in the sustainable development of today's society and essential elements in the development of sustainable business models.

The School of Management has invited a number of domestic experts in related fields to give lectures and share their insights on the international trend of sustainable development and the new value of ESG industries.

Plan the learning journey and present the learning outcomes beyond the exam

MyEMI Digital Learning Passport: The School of Management has designed an EMI Learning Passport for students to record their EMI-related learning experiences and to issue an official EMI certificate as a proof of English proficiency when they reach a certain standard.

The School of Management actively promotes bilingual learning and aims to nurture students’ bilingual talents in professional fields. To this end, the School of Management is committed to creating a bilingual environment and actively pursuing international business management certifications.

Dual AACSB and EQUIS accredited to increase international visibility and impact

The School of Management is one the only two colleges in Taiwan to have received both AACSB and EQUIS accreditation and has been recognized for its quality of management education, internationalization, and corporate cooperation, which has strengthened international business education exchanges and ensured the quality of education and brought management education to the international level.

For the school, the accreditation will enable it to conduct academic cooperation and exchange with foreign universities more smoothly, and then to launch dual degree programs to attract foreign students to exchange and study in the school, so as to enhance the international visibility and influence of the School of Management.

Combined with the Higher Education Deepening Project to Revitalize Learning Effectiveness

In addition to inviting internal and external stakeholders to participate in the development of the program, a dedicated unit has been set up to establish the EMI faculty incentive program to improve the quality of the faculty's all-English teaching, and to integrate the concepts of digital teaching or innovative teaching into the course content so that the EMI curriculum will be revitalized to promote student learning effectiveness.

Internationalization of employment and cultivation of international talents

With 45% of foreign students in the School of Management, local students can experience the differences in thinking, culture, and attitudes of different countries through exchanges and interactions with international peers, thus naturally acquiring an initial international mindset and vision. With the progressive implementation of the EMI program and the collaboration with the well-known workplace social networking platform (LinkedIn), students can access various professional courses offered by the LinkedIn Learning platform, which is affiliated with LinkedIn, and most of the courses are related to the curriculum of the School of Management and are mostly in English, thus helping students to develop the habit of using English and learning independently.

Students can prepare for employment in advance, increase their market exposure, and find a career direction that suits them through the courses. Students can also build a resume that is required by multinational and international companies, so that they can match with companies faster when they seek employment in the future, thus creating a talent flow rate that is in line with international standards.
